You are very much right, and that's tied into the broader problems we have with sexuality in general in this country. Whether that is our resistance to teaching young people about sex and how their bodies work, our general discomfort with the naked human body, or this contradiction we expect of women when it comes to their sexuality. Our society is simultaneously over sexualized and repressed.... And it manifests in some weird ways. But I don't know how you can really address that here, because part of that comes from religion. That makes the whole topic in general difficult to address in American society.

On a slightly related note though, that other guy is right that antimicrobial resistant bacteria/viruses/fungi/parasites are fucking terrifying. That is something we absolutely need to address immediately, because I don't think the consequences of antibiotics becoming completely ineffective is something we really want to explore. The very idea of that is horrifying. That's when you get to the point that it doesn't matter whether or not you get tested for anything if we don't have a way to treat whatever is wrong with someone.
