HELP - Need advice about Sub maintenance, pain management and prescriptions.

[–]BillTheCommunistCat 2 points 50 minutes ago  Ill try to answer these to the best of my ability, but I am in no way a medical professional. I would think that once you are admitted to a suboxone program, a doctor would be very weary about prescribing you opiates. I don't know if he would still give you a script since you do have legitimate pain, but I would imagine that it is a long shot. If you have been taking 12mg a day (thats a lot) for about 45 days I would wait until withdrawls started to set in before I did any oxy. At LEAST wait a couple days, but suboxone has a very long half life which means it is hard to "break through". Go with the doctor option first. If it doesn't work you aren't out anything but if it does than you don't have to worry about breaking the law. You should tell your doctor about the suboxone though; if he found out after the fact it would be very bad for you. He should already know about it also; suboxone treatment is definitely put into your medical records. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]kenshinmoe[S] 1 point 10 minutes ago  Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I suppose I should tell my doctor about it, what have I got to lose. Plus then I can get some real answers. I hear that it takes up to 100 mgs of oxycodone to break through 8 to 10 mgs of bup, but I dont know obviously. Sounds like a waste, but if there is no other way to stop a pain attack while on buprenorphine, I wouldn't mind taking every pill I could to stop the pain. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply

You will most definitely still be able to get your prescription for Oxycodone regardless of whether you are on Suboxone or not and insurance will cover for it either way. It's just semantics. Though if the doctor you are going to is the one who labeled you a drug abuser obviously he won't be the individual to prescribe them to you. I would find another pain management doctor and bring a printed history of your prescriptions of Oxycodone to show him that you were on it and your condition has flared up again and would like to get back into pain treatment. Suboxone is nothing like Methadone in the sense of taking a certain amount to break through it. You will need to wait at the very minimum 24 hours after dosing Suboxone in order for Oxycodone to produce effects. Though 36 hours is more realistic. Furthermore, you will get immensely sick if you take the Suboxone after dosing the Oxycodone provided it is within at the very least 24 hours from your last dosage. The rule of thumb is not to take Suboxone after Oxycodone until you display/feel noticeable symptoms of withdrawal or before the 24 hour mark. Never disclose to your doctor that you are a drug abuser while attempting to regain a prescription for Oxycodone or else you can kiss any chance of achieving your goal goodbye.
