High Temperatures Are Already Sending Refugees to Europe — A study finds a link between crop-harming weather and asylum applications to the European Union

We are rapidly running out of time to act responsibly to curtail the effects of pollution, runaway greenhouse warming, habitat destruction, ocean acidification, mass extinction, and ultimately the demise of the biosphere. News like this is confirmation that we are in fact too late. We needed to act years, if not decades ago, when we first learned of these problems. Instead, we are looking at decades of 'business as usual', despite being fully aware of these problems. Electing Trump may literally be the final nail in the coffin for the human race, and if you think that I am exaggerating or being overly dramatic, you do not understand the full implications of ongoing research in these fields. The human race may survive the next century, but the biosphere is doomed, and our children / grandchildren will never know what it's like to experience a healthy ecosystem. We have doomed our descendants to a harsh life, one that they won't be able to live without mechanical and technological advances. Eventually we will need something akin to a spacesuit to survive on the surface of the Earth, if we are to survive at all.
