How do atheists deal with intense disappointment?

I pray to my ancestors.

I have faith that i know what i am doing. And that the disappointment may be saving me from something much worse. Or that i am powerful enough to handle disappointment.

There are no rules to being atheist of course. You can pray to god if it makes you feel better, then not believe a moment later. It doesn't make you any worse of a person.

I think of religion like a drug. If you need it and use it sparingly it will be no issue. If you don't need it and give it up, all the better.

God is a man made construct. It is all made up. The vindictive version of god is made up by vindictive people. The good god is made by good people. You can make your own god if you need to.
