How was (or still is) your grandma more influential than other women in your life?

I think my grandma is so influential for me because she’s such a kind, warm and memorable person. I bump into people in clubs that I’ve not seen since we were children and one of the first things they ask me is how my gran is doing.

I’ve had occasions when I mention her in passing and people excitedly tell me they know her. I’d loved to be the kind of woman who has that kind of impact on people.

She’s also always moving with the time even though she’s very elderly now. I remember about 15 years ago when the first gay kiss was shown on a uk soap and it was a big scandal at the time, and she said she’d rather not see things like that on tv. Now she’ll tell me about documentaries she’s watched about transgender people and how she thinks it’s great they’re doing what makes them happy in life.

I think we should all aim to be like that, and not get stuck in the past as we grow old :)
