How would your views of religions change (if at all) if they weren't so hateful

I have a beautiful family of christians. They know where i stand and we both respect each others point of view. I love them all dearly. However, i get annoyed when politics plays in and they use the bible to justify legislation. Live your life by the code you wish, but don't dismiss science or other groups by weaponizing an unfalsifiable book. Thats really my major qualm. For the most part religious people have been gracious to me, and hell, they aren't going anywhere and neither are us atheists. I'll add that growing up rural poor and watching family members tithe our money to a megachurch really rubbed me the wrong way. The preacher was wealthy and flaunted it.
