If you feel like you have to declaw a cat, then you shouldn't have a cat.

Anyone who feels that they need to de-claw their cat should either:

  1. Give up their cat to another owner or society that will respect and take care of them; or
  2. Get a fucking scratching post and play with them once in a while so they don't scratch their furniture.

If you look after a cat well by playing with it regularly, providing toys and stimulation and posts/climbers where they can sink their claws in, furniture clawing will be minimised. To a cat, a scratching post feels much nicer to claw then a hand stitched, power recliner with a leather trim and USB charging ports.

Trimming is ok. De-clawing is not. It's outright mutilation whichever way you look at it.
