This happened to me kind of.

A delivery truck backed into my car, in my driveway and drove off. I called the company and they denied it and basically dared me to try and prove it, saying ,"hah, call the cops if you like, good luck with that."

I took a paint sample from the dent and bagged it. I also took measurements of the dent and from the ground to see the height. I took tons of photos with the measurements and damage.

I added the time the package was delivered and called the cops to do a report. Just as the cop was starting to tell me "there isn't much you can do about it", I dropped all the evidence in front of him and he said, "huh, well shit, I guess you got him."

The paint chip matched the truck, the dent matched the truck height and I had the receipt of him being there that day. The cop informed the drivers company that I had collected plenty of evidence to sue them, and they called me that day to offer to pay instead of court. They paid it all, and I demanded the smart ass that dared me, personally apologize.

Good guys 1, bad guys zero.
