Hey Mike, There is this girl I go to college with and a few weeks ago I finally mustered up the courage to ask her out. I ran through a snow storm on campus to catch up to this girl because I don;t have any classes with her and a straight up approach was my only option. I ended up getting her number and a coffee date. We ended up going out about a week later but an hour before we were supposed to go she asks if her roommate can come since she got off work. I say yes just to not be a jerk. We go and have coffee and talk for about an hour and half. I then ask them if they want to come along and go rock climbing with me and my buddy. She says yes to that too, so I figure it's going okay even though her roommate is there. We climb for about an hour then leave. She gives me a hug and I say we should hangout again if she wants to and she says yes to that too. But then like 30 minutes later she texts me saying how she had an awesome time but thinks we'd be better friends.... I tell her I respect her for telling me that and she says how we should go rock climbing again or something along those lines soon. I said sure. I really want to take this girl out on an official date but don't know how to change this dreaded friend thing. Should I give it some time and just be her friend and hangout occasionally with her and set boundaries essentially for what we talk about? Or should I take my chances and lay it out there saying how my intent of the coffee date was to get to know only her and not her and her roommate and see if she would be willing to go on an actual date? I also ended up finding out that she thought it was kind of strange how I approached her on campus by just randomly approaching her.....which was my only option given we don't have classes or anything together. The past guys she has dated she met at parties while they were drunk so she has never had a guy actually approach her cold I think like I did. Haven't texted her or anything in a week but I saw her at school where I work today and chatted for a minute or two before she went to class. Thanks for your help.
