I’m in med school and last year I had a rotation in child neurology. We had a lady come i with a 4 year old daughter who almost looked like a large newborn by her movements. She couldn’t hold her head up on her own, she had barely any limb movements, and even then they were like a newborn flailing around. She couldn’t feed without choking because of her weak/paralyzed muscles, she was completely unresponsive to any visual or sound stimuli. She was as close to brain-dead as you can be while still having some liveliness about you.

Turns out she had Herpes encephalitis as a newborn that she barely lived through, and on MRI we could see that her beain was atrophied to half the size of the cranial cavity. The doctor said that the probable cause of the herpes was a family member with a cold-sore kissing the baby.

So please, DO NOT KISS ANY BABIES ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A DISGUSTING COLD-SORE, it can ruin a life.
