Oh man, I lived in a dorm as a kid. There were some crazy taboos about bodily functions, some girls refused to crap if there was anyone else in the bathroom. And I was terrified to fart around anyone, lest I be the 'gross' girl.

I remember holding every fart in for weeks. I'm sure a few slipped out in my sleep but for the most part, yeah, I kept it down. Until one day I was seized by agonizing stomach cramps in the middle of science class. Assuming that my appendix had burst or something, I quickly accepted my inevitable demise. I asked to be excused and instead of going to the nurse, I stumbled back to the dorms, and laid down in bed to die. I wrote a last will and testament while I waited.

And then, my sisters, I let out a fart so long, loud, and pure that the mere memory of it brings a tear to my eye. At one point, it wasn't even a fart, just the rushing of wind. Never in my life have I felt such a profound, yet clean, sense of relief.

Anyway, moral of the story is that it's probably not healthy to hold in your farts forever.
