LPT: When entering your vehicle remember lock the doors to limit the ability of any wrongdoers.

Recently on vacation in Big Sur, my wife and I were driving a rental: a really nondescript, white Toyota something or other. I honestly don't recall if it was a camry or corolla. Along the route we stopped at a trailhead because my wife needed the restroom.

On my walk back from the car I was distracted by the foliage. I just slowly sauntered back on the sidewalk, taking in the view, then finally arrived at my car and climbed in the driver seat, still kinda gazing up at the trees. Suddenly I hear, "Um, excuse me?" and look over to see a startled looking Asian woman in the passenger seat of a car that, now inside, I didn't recognize. Even though my head was scrambling with explanations and apologies and empathy for how terrifying the experience must have been for her in the moment, the only thing I could do in the moment was laugh and scramble for the door lever. I did apologize profusely after I got out and she reluctantly accepted my apology after a totally understandable and tense few seconds of confusion.

I guess it does happen.
