Mason High School hijab event canceled over First Amendment concerns

Not that this should matter, but I'm extremely left wing and this entire story pisses me off. If this was far right Christians handing out church pamphlets or crucifixes everyone would lose their shit...including me. Religious propaganda has no place in schools especially masquerading around as "celebrating diversity". What an absolutely pile of manipulative bullshit.

This is no different than sending religious missionaries to promote their religion and absolutely violates the first amendment. Just because these people casually dismiss the first amendment doesn't mean they can twist our laws to promote their religion in public schools. The fact that these zealots are trying to act like the backlash is about Islamaphobia makes my blood boil. As if there hasn't been mass public outrage when Christians hand out bibles or pray in school. I wish religious zealots would stop interfering in education and keep their bullshit to themselves. I see these people exactly the same as I see far right Evangelicals and have absolutely zero sympathy for them.

On the positive side, maybe this event will make all the far right Christian zealots think twice about their constant attempts to erode the separation of church and state.

Also, here's the wiki on the Council of American Islamic Relations for anyone who wants to read about what they are up to. I think anyone who claims to be progressive or claims to give a shit about human rights, equality, women's rights, etc. should be outraged that this shitty organization is interfering in politics and schools considering where their funding comes from:

In the past CAIR has accepted donations from individuals and foundations close to Arab governments.[106] Within CAIR there is debate regarding foreign funding, and several CAIR branches have criticized the national office for accepting foreign donations.[106]. According to Zuhdi Jasser, founder of American Islamic Forum for Democracy, CAIR has received "significant Saudi financing".[107] CAIR acknowledged that it received $500,000 Library project from Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal.
