I am a junior at a T10 school for computer science. I am also a pre-med student. I haven't yet decided if I want to go to med school or become a software engineer (SWE), and my reasons are purely financial (I will roughly enjoy either job the same amount).

I have a good internship this summer, and a decent network at big tech, so my path to a FAANG is pretty linear.

I also have a high GPA/MCAT score and have submitted my application for medical school this summer, and can reasonably anticipate that I will get into medical school. I should note that my family owns a medical practice that brings in ~1.5 million/yr, and I will take over that practice if I become a doctor (in the right specialty). My family also has a large network in medicine, so I should be able to become a doctor in the right specialty.

Given my FF goal is $8 million, is software engineering better for money over medicine? I want to assume that I will be a generic SWE who start out making the median for FAANG (~150k), but I'm not sure how high I should assume is the ceiling for my salary. For medicine, those numbers are pretty straightforward because there are pretty limited options for making money (surgery centers, owning clinics, etc.), but for SWE I'm not sure what to project for my ceiling (is it 400k, 600k, 800k)?

Appreciate your thoughts!
