My daughter met George Clooney at the March for Our Lives rally today!

A. No I’m not. I’m looking at it just right. Any picture can work as a representation of modern values.

B. No shit sherlock. Again, I get it, people know George because he smiles at cameras, I am not arguing against that. Of corse this girl goes for him first, that’s the natural human reaction. But once again let me state this: It’s a perfect portrait of what I see as flawed logic. Why do we hold an actor to a higher pedestal than a person who actual pushes for positive political change?

One more time: I am not saying this girl personally did something wrong, that feminism is bad, or that this picture is some earth shattering thing. But I find humor in it. It shows the way we look at people, and how we gauge their importance in our mind. Yes, George has been in countless films, of course he is recognizable. Maybe my view on this is because I don’t really get the point of needing to meet/be pictured with the famous. But I just find it odd that at a political rally, the political figure is jumped over.

You also seem to think George is more accomplished than Amal, which I would argue against. While George made it to the movies, Amal had made herself in to an extremely well educated, well respected lawyer and activist. I would say a heavily respected lawyer has spent much more time and money training, learning, and practicing both in and out of court, than an actor. Not to say acting is easy, far from it. But why should we hold starring in films to a higher caliber of accomplishment than attending a great school, studying your ass off, passing the BAR, climbing the ranks, and making your name well known without having to star in theaters across the country?
