Parents of preteen or teen athletes, do you expect to be notified when your child is injured?

I would be upset. My middle school daughter does not play a school sport but she does participate in a full contact sport in a co-ed community league. They take their concussion protocols very seriously. If a player takes a hit to the head, all practice stops, all other players leave the track and take a knee and stay silent so that all coaches can give their full attention to assessing the player for signs of concussion. Other players do not make a sound or resume practice until the injured player is either cleared to continue or leaves the track to sit out the remainder of practice. When in doubt, coaches err on the side of caution and have the player sit out. Most of the time parents are on site for practices but 100% they are notified about what happened and what the coaches observed during their concussion assessment.

I don't mind that my 12-year-old daughter loves playing a full contact sport but only because I know everyone involved in her league (and the association that governs their sport) takes safety very seriously. Lack of communication with me about a possible head injury would jeopardize my daughter's ability to remain in the league.
