Gonna tell you now, most people don’t give a shit about most animals. I worked at a county shelter & several animal sanctuaries over the past few years, I lost my faith in humans after the first few months.

Something like this would never get anywhere in court, you will go to prison as if they did nothing. Im gonna rant a bit, because this is a touchy subject for me; but to law enforcement or to pretty much any state or federal court, your dogs life pretty much means nothing more than property. The whole Harambe thing barely touches the surface of what value animals have in our society.. if a parent tells their kid to stick his hand into the mouth of one of our animals, and he scrapes his hand pulling it back; the animal will likely get euthanized. Even if the animal did nothing but sit there. Typically it’s the parents that’ll threaten us, but there’s nothing we can do about it; as most sanctuaries operate on an extremely limited budget. We can ban them, but that’s pretty much it.

Even if you find someone in the process of slitting your dogs throat, still can’t legally do anything about it. Well you can argue that you felt your life was in danger as well, but if they decide to run away before you can do anything; and you went after them, well that’s prison for you still.
