So proud of my 12 year old son who started walking the neighbor's dog at 7 am for $5, and just handed me is first hundy to deposit.

Yeah I am employed and like most Americans, I get my health insurance through my employer. So I don't really have to worry about paying for health care costs right?

EXCEPT...The government takes like $700/month out of my paycheck for Medicare (which I don't get because I'm not retired yet). And my employer makes me kick in about $600/month for my health insurance. So all in I'm paying $1300/month for health "benefits" that are "provided to me".

This bugged me far less before I talked to my retired father, who told me, no, Medicare isn't free when you're retired, you still have to pay premiums. So like what the hell? I'm paying for it now, and when I retire? And meanwhile paying for my own insurance?

I'm not on the bandwagon of complaining about health care in the States. I get pretty good care and if I have a medical problem this is the place I want to be. But what is up with the freaking cost? Do I live in an ICU?

Sorry for the rant I just looked at my paycheck and freaked out.
