In my honest opinion, Mother 3 is a wonderful story told in a great RPG experience. The story of the game is pretty much the main reason I continued to play the game up to the end. This is also the only game where I have actually cried due to the final battle of the game. It's seriously that good.

Mother 3 combines it's humor and sadness very well. As said by the top comment, it definitely had that nightmarish undertone that defines the Mother series. The story can be tear-jerking at times which is a thing not many games can do, but Mother 3 accomplished it masterfully. In fact, I'm just going to gush a whole bunch about the final boss and why it's the best thing ever.

Before I do that though, I'm going to to talk about the Negative Man, one of the most interesting enemies in the game. The Negative Man doesn't do anything but complain instead of attacking, and when he does attack he only deals one damage. The whole fight you are just beating this helpless enemy until he is defeated. While it may seem funny at first, you start to think and realize that what you just did may have been wrong. The Negative Man is amazing foreshadowing to the final boss.

The final boss is an emotional roller coaster throughout. In this battle, you find out spoilers With this info, you are left as helpless and weak as the Negative Man. The best strategy is to heal and keep the battle going as long as you can. This part is extremely tense and terrifying to watch as the boss beats you down while you are left helpless. As the fight goes on spoiler Due to personal reasons, the final boss was so relatable to me and had me crying once it was over.

All in all, I love Mother 3. I love it's story, it's gameplay, it's music, it's everything. It's my second favorite game of all time for good reason.
