[RANT] In defense of cardio

On learning to love running (for those that want to):

Don't be afraid to start out super slow. Walking is underrated. Walk the routes you want to run. When you're ready, jog slow - watch videos on form and breathing patterns before you go out. Think about them while you're moving. When you get tired, walk again. Consider doing C25k (Couch to 5k), which has walking breaks built in. I got the app and it has been so helpful for me, both when I first started running a few years ago, and recently when I started again after a very long haitus and basically had to start over.

I started running the year before last, got as far as running over 4 miles (albeit at a slow pace) last year... then fell off the wagon. Hard. So I started it over and while it's been easier starting on the program this time than it was the very first time I did it, I've been using it as an opportunity to work on my form, my running, and my speed... and I've finally started to enjoy running. A lifetime of hating it and at 30 years old, I'm finally starting to love it.

Having a place I love to run has been a huge help.. Not everybody gets to have an awesome running place, but even mapping out a route that takes you through a park or a pretty neighborhood or choosing a time of day that brings you joy - sunrise, sunset, etc... for me, it's in the mornings when it's a little foggy and there aren't many people out. Loving the atmosphere around my runs has helped me greatly in learning to love the run itself. I choose to listen music that is relaxing but still upbeat: Jesca Hoop, Cvrches, Ellie Goulding, Odesza, etc.
