I have a rescue dog. I do want to say I don't want to open any kind of judgemental bag of worm cans with that statement, I just happen to have a dog who was abused. She loves the heck out of me. Any time I sit down on the couch she snuggles right up to me and gives me a big ol' doggo hug. If I recline on the couch, she lays on her back under my arm and licks my face. It's adorable and it makes her happy, so it makes me happy. That's the physical contact I get. I don't get anything more except for the usual "friendly handshake, family hugs." I'm super socially awkward and lack confidence in most scenarios so I don't have a lot of people touching my arm or anything like that, and people in my area just don't do hugs in general like with anybody that isn't an SO or family member. Also nobody smiles at anybody except forcibly out of awkwardness.

In retrospect I think I need to move far away from here. It's depressing.
