I hear this argument a lot and it makes sense, but it doesn't account for the length of term limits.
4 year limits? Awful, agreed. But how about, e.g., a 15 year term limit? That's plenty of time. And it prevents the mindless re-electing of incumbents who have no challengers because theyre so entrenched and have so much of the political process in their pocket they cant lose, and it allows newcomers with fresh ideas an inroad.
The effect of "buying politicians" isnt going to be worse having a 15 year limit vs allowing a politician to hold office for indefinitely, like, say, 30 years of Mitch McConnell.
It also still allows movement within government. Hit the term limit for governor? Run for representative, if people like you you'll win. Hit the representative limit? Run for senator. Etc.
