I was a pretty poor kid growing up. I got to go to summer camp for free through a local church organization and so did a lot of other kids. My family was not religious nor did we attend church at all. And the camp itself wasn't a religious experience; it was swimming and jumping on a giant trampoline and hiking and meeting new people from around my province and singing camp songs around a camp fire in the evenings while making s'mores. Cutting funding for religious groups like this (which is what this is, let's be honest) is pretty low hanging fruit for the liberals as far as I am concerned. And it's shitty for kids who are poor like I was growing up who won't be able to benefit from programs like the one I described if funding is cut. I never caught any jesus at summer camp or had anti-abortion views pushed upon me, but I still have friends from that time and I have really great memories.
