Lmao ... these fuckin' people have no decency. How incredibly hypocritical to criticize Hunter Biden for "receiving favors" while themselves benefiting from their own purchased connections.
On the point of Hunter Biden that the WH defense brought up, they played a clip of an interview where he was asked if he was benefiting by "being a Biden." In other words, does having a politically connected father bestow upon him benefits that no ordinary citizen would have?
I think that's honestly a question that has plagued him. He responded with:
"I don't know. I don't know. Probably not [have been asked to join the board at Burisma], in retrospect...but that's — you know — I don't think that there's a lot of things that would have happened in my life if my last name wasn't Biden."
This has less to do with political corruption and more to do with acknowleding the benefits received by people from well-connected families. In other words, could he have achieved success on his own?
I think about legacy admissions to elite colleges. Children of CEOs advicing up the ranks at their parents' companies faster than an outsider. When people think about privilege, Hunter Biden has benefited from privilege, and he openly acknowledges that.
Now, I come from a poor farming and construction family. Not dirt poor, but vacations in my family were going to a public beach on a manmade lake one county over on a Saturday afternoon. Ascending the social ladder later in my life and meeting people from well-endowed families has made the point abundantly clear that family connections make your life much easier.
The WH is essentially alleging a crime against Hunter Biden that their own defense counsel is guilty of, and that Trump's children are guilty of, that nearly anybody whose parent is in a socially or politically influential position is guilty of. That is the crime they allege. Since when in the history of the Republican Party has making money ever been a crime? Since when in the history of the Trump family has benefiting from your family's name or parents' accomplishments been a crime? Ivanka Trump's trademarks in China. Donald Trump promoting his son's books. Jared Kushner using the Trump name to advance his real estate business?
And since when during this administration has being unqualified ever been tantamount to a crime? Ivanka Trump representing the United States at the UN on her father's behalf or attending defense meetings. Jared Kushner having a security clearance he most certainly never would have received after fucking his SF-86 up multiple times.
If that is what the White House defense alleges, they are frankly making a mockery of themselves.
