[UK] ‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ launches straight in at No.1. Third biggest launch of the year behind Ghost Recon Wildlands and Horizon Zero Dawn.

The writing actually gets pretty good, but you have to wait until you get midway into the game. My theory is they actually wrote the story backwards. They came up with an intriguing premise and some interesting character histories, and they kept focusing on those things until the release date kept creeping up closer so they had to rush out some introduction narrative.

The main plot point is pretty typical. You're gunning after the big bad dude that's fucking all your shit up.

But without spoiling anything, by far the most interesting storyline in the game involves your father, your family history, and what's really going on behind the scenes of the Andromeda Initiative. In my opinion, this is the true story driving Mass Effect: Andromeda. They just couldn't allude to it in previews or trailers because it's supposed to be a big surprise. The shitty thing about it is that it's tied behind a stupid fetch quest when it should be tied to the main storyline. Again, this just tells me the dev team ran out of time.
