United CEO doubles down in email to employees, says passenger was 'disruptive and belligerent'

Not really. Put yourself in some of our patients' shoes. Chronic pain patients need to be seen regularly for face to face follow ups in order for their narcotics to be reissued. Memory patients are frequently elderly, whose family take days off of work and fly from a different state to take them to their appointments. There are patients who need to make special arrangements for transportation. Many physicians are booked months out, especially older, well established physicians. What if the patient can't get another appointment in time and the $6k Botox expire? The insurance companies certainly aren't going to eat the cost. Physicians work, and many over 120-140 hours a week, so no, the option to "squeeze patients in" really isn't one. They work, hard, because they have patients who trust and depend on them. They work, hard, because they need to pay the clinic and hospital staff. I suppose if the physician is a hospitalist who only does consultations at the hospital, sure, someone can cover him. But that is so improbable given his age.
