Unpopular Gaming Opinions?

The Stanley Parable is pretentious as fuck. I kinda respect it out of principle, and I love art games, but really its just making jokes about game cliches without offering up any real criticisms. Plenty of games do that.

GTA IV is the best in the series. V is a total mess that cant decide if it wants to be serious or ridiculous, one moment your son is abandoning you and the next your being abducted by aliens. Because drugs. The characters are total pieces of shit with no redeeming qualities, and no development. I wanted them all to die, but at the end of the game they just say, "Well, we're terrible people and all, but fuck it!" GTA IV at least went all in on the darker and (slightly) realistic tone and it paid off, there are no happy endings, how could there be? Niko Belic was an excellent character who, deep down, was not a bad guy, but had just been through a life of hell.

Anita Sarkeesian made a lot of good points. Her arguments aren't perfect, but really, oversexed fanservicey female characters with no personality are fucking annoying. Also, as a straight guy, when you think about it, its a little weird when 99% of your gaming library consists of roided out meatheads and abercrombe models. Give me some more badass amazonians, or just something different for fucks sake.

The whole DayZ flavor of survival games sucks. Survival doesn't have to be boring, I shouldn't have to roam around for hours, seeing nothing, just to get a t-shirt and die. Don't Starve for example, is an ideal survival, lots of enemies, lots to craft and find, lots of ways to die.

As a huge Metal Gear Solid fan, THAT CANNON IS NOT SACRED. I dont give a fuck about retcons, they make the individual games better. Also, while they CAN delve into very meaningful social and political commentary, and in general I love what Kojima says, that is only one small factor of what makes them great. They are great because they are absurd and fun as hell and extremely well designed and polished, the thinky stuff is just icing on the cake.

This felt good.
