Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth]

Ah, I understand your perspective now.

Unfortunately a sustainable technological future is impossible. The planet has limited energy rich resources and we have used the easily accessible ones already while simultaneously poisoning our atmosphere with pfas, nox, CO2, and methane. There is no current or proposed technology that can fix the situation, and the details of the ipcc report admit that. All projections under 8c rely on carbon capture, which is a complete failure.

Technology doesn't solve this problem. It can't. Technology uses energy to do work. That's technology in a nutshell. If you're remaining energy sources are solar, you need to source the precious metals to build the panels and battery infrastructure. That alone is hugely environmentally damaging, but it also doesn't solve the problem long term because we have incredibly small quantities of those metals relative to oil or coal. Even with perfect usage, a fully solar society would deplete the earth of all those materials quickly, especially with continued population growth.

None of that matters because of the issues with industrial agriculture I mentioned. Once petroleum declines, there will be no way to sustain the current population, solar or no solar.
