What movie surprised you with how unexpectedly good it was?

Haven't seen Underwater but I just watched Dagon from 2001 for the first time and it honestly is one of my new all-time favourite horror movies. i had just watched color out of space and was super disappointed with it and wanted to try something else based on lovecraft.

I seriously cannot believe how good it was, the creatures managed to be scary the whole time and they didn't show too much so it managed to stay grounded. the atmosphere was perfect, i genuinely cared about the characters and the music was also really well done. i cannot believe it took me so long to watch it, the shadow over innsmouth has long been my favourite lovecraft story. would definitely recommend to avoid watching the awful trailer and check it out if you enjoy lovecraft!
