What should I be doing after a parents death?

Hey. I lost my dad 3 years ago and had to deal with most of these things in the beggining with my brother. (I'm french too) The best advice you can get is to go see a notary, if possible the notary you dad was seeing already if he bought a house for example. They are used to these situations and will give you some of the best advices for your situation. In our case, once we took care of the "urgents" papers like death certificate, hopital stuff, etc we got to see the accountant, banks, insurances, etc.

Last advice is to keep what you do pretty organized ans keep notes of what you did, need and who you saw, it will be easier.

It seems very complicated at first, which it is, but once you started it will get better.

Même si nous sommes seulement sur Internet, mes sincères condoléances.
