This happened in a high school golf tournament, couple months ago:

Today while daughter was in the middle of her back swing on the 4th tee A small dog jumped on her from behind. The dog then grabbed the ball off the tee and ran down the fairway with it. Small dog stopped about 20 yards away, dropped the ball and began barking at the Threesome. The Three golfers started walking towards the dog. Dog seeing this, picked up ball and ran up to them. When they tried to get the ball back, dog ran 20 yards away again. Threesome decided to return to the tee so daughter could tee off. Dog, seeing a golfer trying to tee off again, dropped the ball it had and tried to get the "new" ball. daughter picked the ball up before dog could get it. Dog returned to previous ball and started barking again. Threesome then sat down on tee box and the dog would run up to them and drop golf ball. When girls would try to grab the ball, dog would pick it up and repeat behavior. After about 20 minutes of this, the dog ran off with the ball and daughter was finally able to hit her drive on the 4th tee.
