Jacob... Jacob stand up and read where I left off.
That one sentence haunts me to this very day. It was the first day of English class and I was chosen to read a simple passage but there was a catch. The catch? I couldn't read so I stood there like a vegetable that had just been boiled in stew. It was a cold winter morning and I swear I could see steam emanating from my body.
Jacob... Jacob stand up and read where I left off. Jacob can you hear me.
I closed my eyes for a few seconds trying to block that old croon's voice out of my head. A few seconds to regain my composition before readjusting my sniper rifle.
Fuck.
Thanks my stupid brain bringing up memories there were now two people standing there. Not only couldn't I read the names on their Jerseys, I had to half shut my eyes to even see who was who clearly.
Fuck. They were twins.
If only I had taken the shot moments ago then I wouldn't be in this situation. I had to take a guess, it was a fifty-fifty chance of hitting the correct target but wait a second. What if I killed both of them? Now that's a brilliant thought. I've never had a brilliant thought my entire life, failing through high-school and what-not.
I had to be quick. There were no passer-bys right now so the only person who could cause a commotion was the other twin. As I pulled the trigger and readied myself for the second shot, the sniper rifle's scope slammed into my glasses, knocking it off my face.
Shit. Shit shit shit.
I paused.
Wait.
I can see.
I CAN FUCKING SEE.
It was the same routine again. Got up, put on my glasses and headed back out. I wondered what assignment I'd be assigned today.
Maybe I'll get the twin's.
