I have zero career ambition and am happy with that. Why do so many people seem to have a problem with this?

Idk what world your family is living in where $95k a year shows a lack of drive. That's $20-30k more than the median family income in the US. Maybe if you live in a super HCOL area I could see why they at least don't see it as a good position or something, but virtually everywhere else that's a solidly upper middle class income. Upper class if you're in a LCOL area. A lot of people approach careers as always needing to climb ever higher but the truth is that there probably needs to be more people like you who get to that perfect position for them and stay there and master it. There's only so many CEO positions and striving ever upward no matter how well fit for the job someone actually is can be a recipe for unhappiness. A lot of people get promoted one level higher than they really ought to.
