So recently I've been rethinking my goals to compete in bodybuilding. My original goal was to compete in teen physique(or bodybuilding) two years from now (summer of 2017). Was thinking Muscle Beach Teens. Only amateurs are allowed; however outdoor so bad lighting and competition setting. I think this was a reasonable goal to meet. Read all the literature about bodybuilding and stuff, put in a lot of work.

The thing is I'm in college in now and there's really know support for bodybuiling here. No community and no school team or school competition. Sort of sucks seeing all the powerlifters hanging out together and having a blast competing. Sucks being weak af too. Recently I've been thinking about switching to powerlifting and begin training now to tryout for the team next year. However, this would mean bringing a weaker package to competition summer of 2017. Possible blockier physique(obliques tend to get bigger during powerlifting I've heard). I don't want to do some powerbuilding routine, want to give 100% to either bodybuilding or powerlifting.

If I train for PL team and join next year(wil 99% make it) and PL for the rest of college:

Pros

  • Better community

  • Will be able to compete offically sooner most likely

  • Won't be weak anymore

  • Join official team (access to PL gym and other benefits)

  • meet more people and stuff

  • not necessarily end of bodybuilding career, may help lay foundation (Ronnia and Arnold all former PL)

Cons

  • Way less size gains

  • will have to learn everything about PL (periodization, how to work past sticking points, how to bulk cut)

  • messing up v taper

  • being too small to compete 2017 (or maybe not being able to compete at all)

  • Not being able to compete till after college (won't meet my dream of competing in teens)

  • Doing something that I don't really have a passion for (find PL interesting but not as much bodybuilding)

Can anymore experienced lifters who have competed in bodybuilding or PL give me tips here?
