Belarus Citizens Have Had Enough And Turn The Tides On Security Forces Brutalizing A Man

Analogies are helpful when they clarify a core idea of a more complex issue. Not being the same thing is exactly the point--it's an illustrative device.

What I have a problem with is implying that this resistance is a bad idea because it will make reinforce the cops' idea that you are an enemy. This is placing the blame on protesters, and not more appropriately upon the agencies themselves.

As you've mentioned, the cops are trained that way. I'm quite familiar with that fact. They already see you as an enemy. Whether you fight back or comply, they have been trained to see you as cattle and are already treating you as such. So the blame isn't on you or your reaction for that mindset--it can't be. You have a right to protect yourself when assaulted.

And to be clear, this is in the context of Belarus. They are fighting against naked fascism--they've been under the same dictator for nearly 30 years and he very nakedly doctored the last election. I think it's pretty hard to criticize people for fighting back any way they have to.
