Do you believe the Bible is an esoteric book or wholly exoteric? Why?

The problem is that the Bible can be read in different ways. A Christian understanding of biblical inspiration would usually claim that the Bible is both written by human authors while also being the word of God in som sense. Now I think it’s possible to read the Bible and hear something relevant to you from God without any specific knowledge at all. On the other hand, there are certain things that you won’t understand unless you do some work with understanding historical context, genre, language used etc, especially in a book like Revelation. On which level is the ‘true meaning’. I don’t think Christians can see the Bible as esoteric in the way Gnostics did. 1 John deals with that in my view (won’t go into detail right now), but I think study of the Bible, it’s context and language can be very helpful and important.
