Conservative nonprofit with obscure roots and undisclosed funders paid Matthew Whitaker $1.2 million

Exactly - I’m a broken record about this but the GOP has been successfully purged of all it’s many hues (social liberals, consistent intellectuals, moderates etc) and all that remains are authoritarian followers. These are folks who believe that convention supersedes everything, including jurisprudence. When the SCOTUS started handing down rulings about civil rights, segregation, reproductive rights, gay rights... these folks rejected the notion that impartial justice is even a thing. To them, social conventions are unimpeachable and should be codified in law... regardless of what the constitution says, because it’s not about universal rule and equal application of total ozone values laid out in our founding documents... it’s about “that’s just how it’s always been” and “because I said so”

Because children of authoritarian households aren’t taught principles that can be universally applied to form a mature character ... they rely on social norms and conventions as they are the only holdfasts to which they can cling in the face of their authoritarian parent’s changing whims and caprices. Basically, their inner lawyer has been beaten out of them and all that remains is a jailer.
