That's the thing. I don't think he's insane. He has a brilliant mind when it comes to tool and dye/engineering and when it comes to family matters he is generally wise.

But he has been conditioned from a young age to not question authority. And to him, God is the ultimate authority. And he doesn't think people would lie about their own faith, so to him whoever claims to be the holiest or most devout politician or newscaster is who he trusts the most.

Fox has been catering to Christian, especially persecuted Christians, for a long, long time. In a world that is increasingly friendly to atheists, gays, and other religions, some Christians see that as an attack on them and their values. The world is changing faster than their belief systems and that is scary.

That's how progress has been framed to these people in order to get views. Fox started "The War on Christmas" to get regular Christians shocked at how some people somewhere are getting martyred/persecuted for their wholesome Christian values.
