At E3, video gaming's bigots have lost.

This just reads like the writer made up their own version of the criticism of "there arent enough female protagonists" and gave herself some half baked sense of satisfaction that people like here changed everything and proved the other side wrong.

Dont get me wrong, the amount of female protaganists have clearly substantially increased as a result of demand but the outrage was always in the case of someone making a new film solely on the basis of "what if all the male main characters where female" where as characters like Ellie in the Last of us was introduced to the audience from the start of the story of the Last of Us as a major character and means that her becoming the Protagonist is a logical next step rather then going "we need a female main character so lets take this male character, replace him with a woman and hey presto, problem solved and arent we so progressive."

Horizon: Zero Dawn announced itself with a female charcter years ago and the reaction was either the people who they thing wouldve complained not thinking about it or just going "hey, thats cool" Where as the way Battlefield is doing it, they look like they are using female characters as a PR exercise by having people defending it using the term "the right side of history"
