Have you ever successfully dated someone after a lengthy period of unspoken tension?

So far yes. We are neighbors, in an apartment style setting. After running into each other and having nice chats I felt like he could be interested. I looked him up on social media and he seemed legit. I could tell he was the type to not want to make a woman uncomfortable so would never make the first move, considering our proximity. I ended up giving him baked goods with a note that included my number.

We texted and hung out for over a month but the neighbor thing made us nervous. For the next year we kept in touch and occasionally went on walks together. When I started dating someone he got jealous and admitted there was still something there. Now we’re a couple.

You should definitely take a chance. Is there a way you could reach out to this guy outside of your group? Suggest hanging out or a date?
