[EVERYTHING] The cast reveal 15 things you need to know about Season 7, from Empire magazine.

Yeah they've hinted at of some kind of revenge, especially when Sansa first returns to Winterfell where she meets that old lady who tells Sansa that "The North Remembers," only to have the next season showing most of the northern houses refusing to lend their support. Honestly I haven't read the books so I'm only analyzing based on what the show gives us. I think the northerners were reluctant to lend their support was because a) many of the bannermen from the other houses were slaughtered at the Red Wedding, b) the Boltons had the support of the Lannisters (or basically Kings Landing) and the Freys who still had an army that remained intact, and c) winter was coming and the northern houses needed to prepare and recover from their losses.

Even after Tywins death, Ramsay Bolton managed to make alliances with the Karstarks and the Umbers which made their alliance practically formidable. With winter coming, it seems that it was too big of a risk for the remaining northern houses to even consider taking Winterfell because they would lose everything, especially knowing how the Boltons treat their enemies. Northern houses are fiercely loyal, but with so many things they had to prepare for, it kind of makes sense and it makes their decision much more realistic.

So what about the Vale? The Vale was still strong, but I think their last minute arrival was calculated by Littlefinger. In season 5 he mentioned to Cersei that he wanted to be proclaimed the Warden of the North. He was aware of Stannis inevitable arrival to Wintefell and he clearly tells Cersei that they should have Stannis and Roose battle it out in order to weaken both houses so he could claim the Winterfell at the most opportune moment. So it's unlikely Littlefinger would've helped Sansa reclaim Winterfell without Jon's makeshift army because he risks losing his one strong hand of ever claiming the north. The Vale cannot take on the Boltons, Umbers, or the Karstarks head on, they only manage to defeat them in BoB because the Boltons & their alliances armies were caught off guard. Plus the Vale are like in their own bubble, they never left the Vale to support Robb Stark, so I doubt they'll fight for Sansa.
