For the past ten years, this man has given my dog a treat. At approximately 3:00 every afternoon, she waits at the end of the driveway for him to deliver the mail.

Our mail person is very considerate, and has been for years. My grandfather has back issues and it hurts to walk long distances, which is unfortunate since our driveway is quite long (not long enough to have to drive to the end of just for mail, but long enough that it's a pain for him).

However, our mailperson noticed one day that he had trouble walking to the mailbox after she had deposited our mail, and drives up the driveway and will knock on the door (if we're home) to hand it to us. Otherwise, she'll put it in a plastic bag, wrap it somewhat tightly, and put it between our screen door and wooden door. It's not some task that goes particularly out of her way or anything but it's a nice gesture.

We had two dogs a few years ago, a golden retriever/chao that was aggressive to strangers, but very friendly to the family, and a beagle/jack Russell Terrier that's passive (but still friendly) to everyone. The Retriever had a heart attack (he was a bit overweight—a result of bad diet on our part unfortunately) and died at night. Our beagle appeared to be saddened and would often lie around the front deck, which was pretty unusual for him. Our mail person drove up one time and saw him sitting there and asked about it. The next day she delivered mail, she pulled out a bag of treats and tossed him a couple. I like to imagine he appreciated it: he would wait outside or by the front door for her to drive up and give him one or two treats every day she comes by. We never had to worry about leaving him outside because, for one, he was small, so he wasn't as big of a threat as a bigger dog (like the retriever was). Additionally, we had one of those leashes that could extend and retract into itself, so we would tie that by the front door so he couldn't go TOO far. If he ever decided to be aggressive to her, he couldn't reach her (not that he ever was).

Sorry for the mildly off-topic post; reminded me of the retriever. Been considering getting another dog soon, though I might just wait for the beagle to pass away since he's kind of old (that sounds kind of morbid...). Maybe i won't want to get another one after that, so I should get one now. Who knows.
