My ex fiance came from a wealthy Palo Alto home and never really had to worry about money. Her parents paid 40k/year so she could go to a liberal arts college in New England. They sent her expensive presents all the time. They took us on trips to Hawaii, Prague, and other places I'd never been. My parents on the other hand are low income, obese, and have messy house. They never go anywhere (because they can't afford to), and my Fiance was always disgusted whenever we would spend time with them. I am sad to say that it caused me to become embarrassed about my parents. My parents could tell, and it made my family feel shitty. They were very happy when we broke up. I've come to accept my parents for who they are rather than how they look, and I decided I would never stay with someone who didn't treat my family with respect. I don't know how my relationship with my family would be if we had gone through with the marriage, but probably not good.
