To play Devil's advocate, honestly why should they? Is it not the parents' responsibility to be able to feed their own kid? If they can't find a way to feed their kid doesn't that just make them a shitty parent? Why is that burden being transferred to the American people?
This isn't like the problems we have with healthcare where pharmaceuticals are price-gouging and putting people into thousands of dollars in debt for things that don't cost nearly as much to produce. We're talking about daily lunches. Just feed your fucking kid, that should be every parent's #1 priority.
I consider myself to be heavily left leaning but this is the one issue I just can't wrap my head around. The ability to feed your own kid isn't dictated by public policy. It is something that is expected of every parent in virtually every culture.
