I'm Andy Slavitt. I ran the ACA and I want to help you get health coverage at HealthCare.gov. AMA.

I appreciate you getting back to me. I spent many sleepless nights trying to learn the ins and outs of the ACA, and how it may benefit my family. Unfortunately, we seem to be one of those families that falls into the dreaded pit of not being able to legally obtain any Healthcare tax credits due to employer sponsered plan availability, not being eligible for Medicaid (our state didn't expand it), and not really being able to afford it.

With our household income, we eek in at a bit above the poverty level, so we should be offered financial help. We do fall in the bracket of 100-400% FPL. However, his job offering an affordable (at the individual, lowest rate) plan that meets minimum requirements and extends the offer to spouses and dependents completely abolishes any eligibility for tax credits for either of us.

I found many articles on this, calling it the 'family glitch' or 'family loophole'. The only way for families like mine to benefit from the ACA is if congress reevaluates the law that causes the 'family glitch' and changes it to consider the affordability of the entire family's plan. But I'm pretty sure that everyone on either side of the political aisle will agree that congress won't be bothering themselves with that.
