I'm starting to feel like dating apps are basically for just having a bunch of first dates.

Man that’s just how dating apps go. It’s a numbers game. You’re going to get a lot of stinkers including bad first dates, promise of a second date and then getting ghosted or flaked out on. I’ve had tons of terrible, terrible dates that didn’t go anywhere but I did eventually find my SO. If you have the patience and discipline to continue through the mud you’ll eventually find someone that was worth all the effort.

Dating online is not really that much different than meeting people at bars or at the store ect. You’re going to have a ton of bad dates and boring conversations, it’s just part of finding that person who you like enough to get over their faults. You get 100% of the work you put into it so chin up my man! Don’t be afraid to fail, try to learn from what happened and move on.

Good luck!
