LPT: Get Fired.

Depends on the scenario.

I did this with a redesign of one of the customer's projects, because my failed-upward boss simply refused to listen for 3 yrs. Eventually, it came time to once again 'fix' bottlenecks in the customer's system, and I forced my idea down their throats by having it nearly complete.

Long story short, it worked, my boss starting seeing me differently, taking my advise more. The company failed, because my boss is a lazy prick with no integrity (long story). He tried to recruit me to another company, to work under him for a time-sensitive project. I negotiated a large salary increase (a work-with-my-old-boss tax). They agreed. I declined their offer, stating I didn't want to work under my old boss.

They hired me under another manager, with the previously negotiated salary. In the mean time, they wanted to know why I refused to work under my boss. I got to tell them in glorious detail why I think he's an absent manager, with no integrity, that doesn't think things through; spreads himself too thin to be effective, and doesn't listen to people with more expertise than him.

Worked out well, but depends on the scenario. I'm going to enjoy watching that prick fail.
