Little know fact about her is that she was most moved when Chief Red Tomahawk, made her a sister and chieftain of the Sioux, by giving her his priceless eagle's feather war bonnet. I loved his simple speech too. Some excerpts:

I am told that many of your young man are buried far from home. ....A woman does not wear an eagles head dress unless she had performed a great deed of heroism...We feel that we have a comrade of the war trail in you'..
