I'm pretty sure some of us growing up pulled the "run from your parents" stint - for me, it was 1 time (and the last, according to my mom) that I pulled that. Our local grocery store near us in the late 80s was the Eagle grocery market (maybe some northern IL peeps are familiar lol). I was 5yrs old & for some reason, I wanted to prove to my mom that I was a "big girl" & could safely cross the parking lot to the grocery store entrance by myself (my older sister 7yrs old was with us). I managed to slip out of my mom's hand & took off. Luckily, I didn't get ran over & made it inside safely. BUT BOY did my mom spank me - just 1 quick swat after scolding me & I was extremely embarrassed. Kids these days need a healthy dose of "embarrassed for their bad behavior" moments. The spank didn't hurt, I was embarrassed by my action that caused the discipline.
