Noticing similarities between Freddie Gray and victim blaming.

She had sex with lots of guys, this was probably one of those times, it wasn't rape. This is textbook victim blaming out of you.

I meant breaking the law on several occasions during that single encounter with the police. Not his prior criminal record. Take off the blinders you idiot. His prior criminal record is irrelevant.

He ran from the police that only allowed them to perform a Terry Stop

Which is a crime, for which you can be arrested.

they then brought him in for carrying a LEGAL KNIFE.

They arrested him for fleeing a legal stop. Upon searching him, they found an illegal switchblade knife.

They didn't properly restrain him in the back of the vehicle, against procedure, and proceeded to ignore this fact as he was repeatedly slammed against walls in the vehicle.

This isn't a crime. There is also no evidence to support it. There is also contraindicating evidence that says he was strapped to the floor.

Tell me how any of this was his fault?

Fleeing a legal detention, possessing an illegal weapon, and physically resisting arrest. That is what his faults were.

Because he was arrested his life was now forfeit?

No, because he resisted arrest he placed his life in danger, and when you do that sometimes you die. To turn that into "life is forfeit" is shock-jock level nonsense.

They have a duty to look after the person they are arresting, in this case unlawfully, and they didn't.

The limits of that duty are very well defined. They do not, for example, have to seek medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Unless they there all neck and trauma surgeons, it is unlikely a court can prove they knew he had a life-threatening injury.

They didn't follow procedure, and now he is dead because of it.

Not following procedure is not a crime, and has no bearing on the statutory immunities LEOs have.

We don't know all of the answers yet, but to say it's his fault is the epitome of victim blaming.

No, it's not. It's not at all. It's not even close. Thus far, there is zero evidence of police wrong doing under the law, and the entire incident would not have happened if Freddie had not fled the police (illegal), resisted arrest (illegal), and been in the possession of a switch blade knife (illegal).
